View original imageKim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, attended the "National Council of Presidents of National and Public Universities" held at Mokpo National University on the 10th, where he welcomed the presidents of national and public universities from across the country who visited Jeonnam and emphasized the importance of future prosperity through the mutual growth of the region and universities.
This event, hosted by the National Council of Presidents of National and Public Universities and organized by Mokpo National University (President Song Hacheol), which will serve as the chair university in 2025, was attended by presidents from 12 national and public universities nationwide, as well as officials from the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education.
During the council meeting, in-depth discussions were held on the efficient execution of Type II National Scholarships and ways to minimize unused funds, with President Song Hacheol, who was elected as the 26th council chair for 2025, taking the lead.
In his congratulatory remarks, Governor Kim stated, "The Council of Presidents of National and Public Universities plays a key role in establishing an educational ecosystem that coexists with local communities," and emphasized, "The mutual growth of regions and universities is the solution to overcoming the crisis of regional extinction and achieving future prosperity."
He continued, "We are promoting key provincial projects such as offshore wind power, renewable energy, aerospace, secondary batteries, and animation in partnership with universities, and actively working to attract outstanding international students, thereby supporting the growth of universities. We are also making efforts to secure national support and revitalize local universities. I hope universities will establish themselves as a pillar in overcoming the crisis of regional extinction," he added.
The National Council of Presidents of National and Public Universities was established in June 2000 under the "Higher Education Act." It is a consultative body in which 19 national and public universities, excluding flagship national universities, participate to discuss university policy issues and promote exchanges.
