Fire from Sulfuric Acid Explosion in Hanyang University Laboratory... 4 Students Injured
An accident involving a sulfuric acid explosion occurred in a laboratory at Hanyang University, injuring four students.
According to the Seongdong Fire Station in Seoul on the 9th, a fire caused by a sulfuric acid leak broke out at 9:01 PM the previous day in a laboratory on the 3rd floor of the New Materials Engineering Building at Hanyang University in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong-gu.
One student was seriously injured by the fire, and three others sustained minor injuries. About 50 people inside the building evacuated, and some equipment was damaged by the fire.
The fire authorities completely extinguished the fire around 9:54 PM, about 50 minutes later, and carried out sulfuric acid removal operations. It was confirmed that the sulfuric acid did not leak outside.
