Opening of 'Amsa Chorok-gil' Connecting Amsadong Archaeological Site and Hangang Park
A New Leisure and Cultural Space to Enjoy Nature in the City
The ‘Amsa Chorok-gil,’ a covered pedestrian path connecting the prehistoric site in Amsa-dong and the Hangang Park, which were separated by Olympic-daero, will be opened to residents starting from the 4th.
Gangdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 4th that the district has constructed the entrance road to Amsa Chorok-gil (5m wide, 272m long), and the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Future Hangang Headquarters has completed the upper green space (approximately 6,300㎡) and walking path connecting to the Hangang Park promenade, and will open it to the public.
Gangdong-gu stated, “With this opening, residents can now cross over Olympic-daero by bicycle or on foot to access Gwangnaru Hangang Park,” adding, “It will restore the fragmented ecological environment and serve as a passage connecting the historic site and the Hangang River, as well as become a new healing spot where people can enjoy nature within the city.” Among the highlights, the upper park built over Olympic-daero offers an unobstructed view and the opportunity to admire the beautiful golden sunset.
The Amsa Chorok-gil construction project was temporarily suspended in 2013 but was revived after seven years through a ‘100,000 Citizen Signature Campaign’ led by Gangdong-gu and local residents, embodying the community’s strong desire. With the opening of Amsa Chorok-gil, the district plans to promote the charm of Gangdong’s Hangang River, now closer to residents’ daily lives, and to develop and maintain the Hangang riverside, a natural treasure, in an eco-friendly manner, turning it into a new opportunity for future development.
The district plans to apply public design reflecting the region’s historical and cultural characteristics around the entrance road of Amsa Chorok-gil, install landscape facilities, and create resting spaces for residents, among other diverse content developments.
