Foreign Ministry Expresses Regret Over US Reciprocal Tariffs... "Prompt Consultation"
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret on the 3rd over the United States' announcement of imposing a high reciprocal tariff of 25% on South Korea and stated that it will enter into negotiations with the U.S. side.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Our government regrets that the U.S. tariff measure has been realized," and added, "We are taking the potential impact of this measure on our economy very seriously, and we will promptly consult with the U.S. side regarding this measure."
U.S. President Donald Trump announced at 4 p.m. local time the previous day at the White House that products produced in South Korea and imported into the United States would be subject to a 25% reciprocal tariff. Although this was a previously anticipated issue, it is a difficult measure for South Korea, which has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the U.S., to accept.

There is also controversy over the U.S. side wavering on the exact reciprocal tariff rate for South Korea. President Trump announced the reciprocal tariff rate for South Korea as "25%," but the annex to the executive order released by the White House later stated "26%." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware of this and is reportedly using all channels to confirm the matter with the U.S. side.
