Rumors of a Second Martial Law upon Yoon's Return... Ministry of National Defense Reaffirms Unacceptability
Kim Seon-ho, Acting Minister, Stated on December 6 Last Year:
"We Will Absolutely Not Accept It"
The Ministry of National Defense reiterated on the 3rd that it will not accept a second emergency martial law even if President Yoon Seok-yeol returns to duty following the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss or reject the impeachment trial.
At a regular briefing that morning, Jeon Ha-gyu, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, was asked about the stance on the second martial law if President Yoon returns to duty. He said, "The position stated by the initial deputy minister (Kim Seon-ho, acting Minister of National Defense) remains valid." When asked if this meant the position of not accepting the demand for the second martial law was the same, he replied, "Yes."
Earlier, on December 6 last year, shortly after the December 3 emergency martial law, Acting Minister Kim stated in the "Ministry of National Defense's Position on Emergency Martial Law" that "the claims regarding the second martial law circulating in some quarters are completely untrue," and "even if there is a demand for the declaration of martial law, the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff will absolutely not accept it."
