Malgeunnuri Small Library Extends Weekend Hours to 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays
A Complex Cultural Space with a Wide Range of Books, Reading Programs, and an Outdoor Theater
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will extend the weekend operating hours of Malgeunnuri Small Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to improve the reading environment and convenience for local residents.
Malgeunnuri Small Library was newly established in Geumbit Park on February 6 this year and serves as a complex cultural space where visitors can enjoy reading in harmony with nature.
Starting April 1, Malgeunnuri Small Library will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed only on Mondays. Previously, it was closed on Mondays and Sundays, and on Saturdays it operated only from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. On weekdays, it will continue to operate as before from Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The library features a full wall of glass windows, allowing users to enjoy the park scenery while reading. Inside the library, there are over 10,000 books across various fields, reading rooms, and club rooms. Reading programs and outdoor movie screenings using the open-air theater are also planned.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We have extended the weekend operating hours of the library to provide more reading opportunities for citizens who find it difficult to visit during weekdays and to allow them to enjoy books in a relaxed environment. We will continue to actively support the spread of reading culture.”

Meanwhile, the district is strengthening cooperation with the Residents’ Autonomy Committee and operating customized local programs to activate ‘small libraries’ beyond just reading spaces into community gathering places. In addition, professional librarians are assigned to all 12 public small libraries to provide high-quality reading environments for local residents.
