Local Economic Boost Expected
The long-awaited 'Gyoeoseon' line in the western region of Yangju, Gyeonggi Province is finally getting on track.
On January 11th, after 21 years, the 'Gyoeoseon' line resumed operation. Initially, as part of stabilization efforts, it started with a reduced schedule of 8 round trips per day, but local residents continued to demand expanded service.
Yangju City announced the joyful news that starting April 1st, the 'Gyoeoseon' line will expand to the originally planned schedule of 20 round trips per day (10 trips each in both directions), entering full normal operation.
This service expansion was decided based on a thorough analysis of demand and operational results over the past three months since the line's reopening. It aims to provide citizens with a more stable and convenient railway service, significantly improving transportation convenience for commuters and weekend passengers.
Additionally, the city revealed plans to introduce a new 'Gyoeoharu' pass to reduce citizens' economic burden and further expand their freedom of movement.
This pass, priced at only 4,000 won, allows unlimited use of the entire Gyoeoseon line, and it is expected to greatly help the line establish itself as a more economical and efficient transportation option in the future.
Alongside this, the city is closely cooperating with Korea Railroad Corporation to promote large-scale maintenance and development projects to revitalize the Gyoeoseon line.
The restoration of Ilyeong Station and improvements to station facilities are actively underway, with major maintenance work planned to be completed by the first half of this year. The Gyoeoseon line is intended to become not just a transportation means but a new driving force for local tourism and economic revitalization within the jurisdiction.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju stated, “The expansion of Gyoeoseon service will be a significant turning point for expanding railway infrastructure in the western Yangju area and for balanced regional development. In particular, it is expected to accelerate tourism revitalization projects in the Jangheung area, serving as an important opportunity to invigorate the local economy.”
