In particular, based on the results of the 5th Taxi Total Volume System research project, the council focused on discussing a plan to increase the number of taxis within a 10% range of the total volume.
Currently, Yangju City has a total of 392 taxis, which corresponds to one taxi per 737 residents out of a population of approximately 290,000.
This figure is significantly lower than the national average of one taxi per 312 residents, causing considerable inconvenience for citizens in their daily use of taxis.
In fact, complaints about delays in dispatch during late-night hours and chronic taxi shortages in the western region have been continuously raised.
Accordingly, the council discussed not only adjusting the number of taxis but also ▲expanding late-night operations, ▲revitalizing operations in the western region, and ▲partial reorganization of business zones.
Taxi operators and related parties reportedly agreed on the urgency of establishing practical countermeasures and shared opinions on the need for region-tailored transportation policies.
Based on the results of this council meeting, Yangju City plans to reflect the autonomous adjustment plan in its taxi supply policy and prepare to supply new licenses as early as the second half of the year, provided there are no issues during the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s verification process.
