An elementary school student who was taking swimming lessons at an indoor pool in Yeongam, Jeonnam, collapsed due to cardiac arrest but regained consciousness after CPR and was transported to the hospital.
According to Yeongam Police Station on the 28th, at around 4 p.m. the previous day, an elementary school student, identified as Miss A (9), lost consciousness and collapsed underwater while participating in a diving class at a swimming pool in Samho-eup, Yeongam-gun. The instructor who discovered her immediately pulled her out of the water and performed CPR and artificial respiration. Afterward, firefighters who arrived at the scene continued emergency treatment, and Miss A regained consciousness and began breathing again.
Miss A is currently in stable condition and her life is not in danger. Police reported that one safety guard was on duty at the pool at the time, and believe the accident occurred when Miss A swallowed water while diving. Authorities are investigating the instructor and others for possible professional negligence resulting in injury.
