Kim Dong-yeon on Lee Jae-myung's Not Guilty Verdict: "Relieved That Prosecution's Excessive Charges Were Corrected"
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, described the court's acquittal in the second trial of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, as "justice prevailing in the end."
On the 26th, Governor Kim posted on his social media (SNS), saying, "It is fortunate that the prosecution's excessive indictment has finally been corrected."
Earlier, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 6-2 (Presiding Judges Choi Eun-jung, Lee Ye-seul, Jeong Jae-oh) delivered the verdict in the appeal trial for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act, which began at 2 p.m. that day. The court stated, "The prosecution's facts were not proven reasonably," and "the defendant is acquitted, and the original judgment is overturned."
This completely overturns the first trial's sentence of one year imprisonment with a suspended sentence.

Accordingly, Lee Jae-myung has largely shaken off the immediate judicial risks he faced. It is also expected to have a considerable impact on the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-youl at the Constitutional Court, for which the hearing date has yet to be set.
