Sunchang County to Partially Support Funeral Expenses for the Deceased Starting Next Month
Partial Funeral Expense Support Program Launched in Sunchang County
Up to 1 Million Won Provided via Voucher Card to Reduce Funeral Costs
Sunchang County in North Jeolla Province will officially launch the 'Partial Funeral Expense Support Program for the Deceased' starting next month to alleviate the financial burden of funeral costs for residents.
According to the county on the 26th, this support program has been established to reduce the burden of funeral expenses due to the increasing number of deaths among middle-aged and elderly residents as the population ages, and to encourage the use of local funeral homes, thereby revitalizing the local economy and enhancing the welfare of residents.
The beneficiaries are relatives of the deceased who had been registered residents and continuously lived in Sunchang County for at least one year as of the date of death, and they must use a funeral home within the county. Depending on age and income criteria, support of up to 1 million won will be provided through a voucher card.
Specifically, for deceased persons aged 60 and over, a lump sum of 1 million won will be provided. For those under 60, an amount between 500,000 and 1 million won will be provided based on median income levels. However, those whose income exceeds 120% of the median are excluded from support.
The issued voucher card can only be used at local funeral homes and related businesses in agreement with Sunchang County from the date of issuance, and in case of loss or damage, it can be reissued once.
For the convenience of bereaved families, the application form can be filled out at the funeral home, and after the county verifies eligibility, the card can be received immediately. To ensure no eligible person is omitted, applications must be submitted to the Health and Longevity Division of the county office within three months of the date of death.
County Governor Choi Youngil stated, "This is a meaningful project to honor the dedication of the deceased who served the county and to pay respect on their final journey," and added, "It is expected to not only reduce the financial burden on bereaved families but also greatly benefit the local economy."
