"Gwangju Office of Education to Strengthen Academic Support for High School Credit System to Prevent Grade Retention"
Individualized Guidance and Supplementary Classes
for Students Falling Short in Attendance or Academic Achievement
In response to concerns that some students may fail to meet graduation requirements due to the full implementation of the high school credit system, the Gwangju Office of Education has introduced the 'Minimum Achievement Level Guarantee Guidance' as a countermeasure.
According to the Gwangju Office of Education on the 26th, the high school credit system applies to students entering the first year of high school this year. Students must complete a total of 192 credits over three years, and are required to have an attendance rate of at least two-thirds and an academic achievement rate of at least 40% in each subject to graduate. To support students at risk of being held back due to not meeting these standards, the Office of Education provides step-by-step support, including 'preventive guidance' during the semester and 'supplementary guidance' at the end of the semester and during vacations.
On the 24th, at the Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall, teacher Nana Kim from Seogang High School is giving a lecture on "Actual Cases of Ensuring Minimum Achievement Level Guidance" during a training session for staff in charge of duties. Provided by Gwangju Office of Education

Schools accept applications and provide support through individualized classes, use of AI digital textbooks, emotional support programs, and teacher mentoring. Supplementary guidance is provided to students who fall short of the standards, offering real-time interactive classes or face-to-face guidance, online content learning, and supplementary assignments during free periods, after school, or during vacations.
To reduce the burden on schools, the Office of Education allows autonomy in the operation method and will also provide subject-specific operation plans and guidance materials. The plan also includes enhancing operational capabilities through teacher training.
On the 24th, a training session for staff in charge was held at the Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall. Kim Nana, a teacher at Seogang High School, presented 'Practical Cases of Minimum Achievement Level Guarantee Guidance,' and participants shared their understanding of the system and operational strategies.
The Gwangju Office of Education also plans to strengthen teacher capabilities by conducting remote training and core teacher training courses in parallel. Superintendent Lee Jeongseon stated, "We will ensure that the Minimum Achievement Level Guarantee Guidance is well established in the field so that the high school credit system can be operated stably."
