License Plate Seizure for Livelihood Vehicles Such as Cargo Trucks and Vans Only After Five or More Overdue Payments
Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it will designate the 26th as the "2025 1st Quarter Day of Intensive Crackdown on Overdue Vehicles" and carry out license plate seizure activities for overdue vehicles.
This crackdown will be conducted in coordination with Gyeonggi Province's intensive crackdown on overdue vehicles and will be promoted more effectively in cooperation with the Hanam Police Station.
The targets of the crackdown are vehicles that have overdue automobile taxes for three or more times and vehicles with fines overdue by 300,000 KRW or more. However, for livelihood vehicles such as cargo trucks, Damas, and vans, considering economic difficulties, license plates will only be seized if the overdue payments are five times or more. This measure aims to minimize the burden on citizens who need to maintain their livelihoods while establishing a culture of sincere tax payment.
Owners of vehicles whose license plates have been seized must fully pay the overdue amount to retrieve their license plates.
Overdue payers must visit the Hanam City Hall Tax Management Division to immediately pay the overdue amount. If payment is not made even after the seizure, strong overdue measures such as delivery orders, forced towing, public auction disposition, and suspension of operation orders will follow.

A Hanam City official stated, "We ask that you pay your overdue amounts in advance to avoid inconvenience caused by license plate seizures," and added, "We will continue to foster a culture of sincere tax payment through ongoing crackdowns and encouragement of tax payment."
