Chungnam Police to Strengthen Crackdown on Truck Law Violations... 33% Increase in Fatalities Due to Driver Negligence
Year-Round Crackdown on Violations Such as Failure to Maintain Safe Distance, Improper Lane Use, and Speeding
The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 25th that it will strengthen enforcement against traffic law violations by cargo truck drivers, as fatal accidents caused by their negligence have surged.
According to the police, as of the end of last year, the number of deaths caused by cargo truck drivers' negligence was 60, a 33% increase (15 more cases) compared to the previous year, accounting for 26% of all traffic fatalities.
In particular, 42 deaths were caused by vehicle-to-vehicle collisions, accounting for 70% of the total.
The police plan to conduct year-round crackdowns on violations directly related to accidents, such as failure to maintain a safe distance, improper lane use, speeding, and failure to wear seat belts, specifically targeting cargo trucks.
Additionally, they plan to strengthen public awareness activities by conducting traffic safety campaigns, sending accident warning text messages, and installing banners and large posters.
A police official stated, "We hope that cargo truck drivers, cargo owners, and all members of the cargo transport industry will participate in creating a culture of safe driving."
