Improving Accuracy of 'Agricultural Product Production Forecasts'... Enhancing Observations with Satellite and Drone Survey Data
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Holds First On-Site Forum on Climate Change Response
The government has begun exploring ways to utilize exploration data obtained through agricultural satellites and drones to improve the accuracy of production forecasts for stabilizing the supply and demand of agricultural products.
On the afternoon of the 24th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs held the '1st Climate Change Response Field Forum' at the Jeonju Agricultural Satellite Center to discuss the utilization of remote sensing data and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the ministry announced on the 25th.
On the afternoon of the 24th, the "1st Climate Change Response Field Forum" is being held at the Jeonju Agricultural Satellite Center.

These strategies include ▲strengthening production and supply management (enhancing data-based observation, boosting stockpiling capacity, discovering domestic and international cultivation areas, etc.) ▲enhancing adaptability (spreading smart agriculture, developing varieties, etc.) ▲reforming distribution systems and practices (streamlining distribution structures, expanding smart consumption, etc.). Detailed plans for each task have been actively implemented since this year.
An official from the ministry explained, "To stabilize the supply and demand of agricultural products, it is crucial to properly set the first step of 'improving the accuracy of production forecasts.' This forum shared progress on the task of 'strengthening data-based production management and observation' in collaboration with the Korea Rural Economic Institute and the Rural Development Administration, and discussed ways to advance agricultural observation."
The agricultural satellite, scheduled to be launched in the second half of this year, is expected to be utilized in various ways, not only improving the accuracy of calculating the cultivation area of major crops but also monitoring domestic and international crop conditions and agricultural disasters. At this forum, discussions were held on ways to utilize remote sensing data captured and analyzed by agricultural satellites and drones, actual measurement data collected by personnel, and AI to enhance the accuracy of crop production and price forecasts.
Additionally, the forum discussed effective support methods for customized production management by linking the Agricultural Master Database (DB), which contains high-quality agricultural management entity information, with the Rural Development Administration’s early warning service for agricultural weather disasters, providing tailored disaster response (prevention) information to farms.
