View original imageGwangju City recently announced on the 24th that Mayor Kang Gi-jung received a 'letter of appreciation' from Miguel Angel Romero Alvarez, the Paraguayan Ambassador to Korea, for the city's donation of fire trucks and support for strengthening firefighting infrastructure in Gwangju.
In the letter, Ambassador Romero stated, "On behalf of the Paraguayan government, I would like to express my deep gratitude to you, Mayor, for your continued interest and generous support in promoting friendly relations between Paraguay and Korea," adding, "Gwangju's cooperation plays an important role in protecting the safety of Paraguayan citizens and has become a significant example of cooperation between the two countries."
Ambassador Romero further emphasized, "This year marks the 60th anniversary of Korean immigration to Paraguay, which has further solidified the relationship between the two countries. In particular, cooperation in the firefighting sector plays a key role, and Korea's support has made a significant contribution to enhancing the safety and well-being of Paraguayan society."
Gwangju City has donated a total of 54 fire trucks?49 to Paraguay, 3 to the Philippines, and 2 to Nambu University?strengthening safety environments in developing countries and promoting international exchange and cooperation.
In particular, supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) global training program, Gwangju has been conducting a training project in Paraguay for three years since 2023. In 2023, a training team was dispatched to Paraguay to provide on-site education, and last year, Paraguayan firefighters were invited to Gwangju Fire Academy for training aimed at strengthening disaster response and emergency medical service capabilities, demonstrating active exchange and cooperation with Paraguay.
Additionally, from 2018 to 2024, 49 fire trucks that had reached the end of their service life were provided free of charge. This year, Gwangju plans to offer extensive support by donating six more fire trucks (three pump trucks and three ambulances) and dispatching a training team from Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters to Paraguay to share advanced firefighting technologies.
