The World Green Growth Forum (WGGF), developed as Pohang's signature conference, has been newly selected for the "2025 Global K-Convention Development Project" hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Tourism Organization.
The World Green Growth Forum, which will be held for the first time this year, is set to showcase the vision of Pohang City, which has successfully transitioned from a high-carbon emitting city to a green city, under the slogan "Green Transition for the Future: Finding a Way Amid Challenges."
To host the World Green Growth Forum, the city formed a consortium with the professional convention organizer (PCO) Withbaton and Handong University to apply for this public project.
In the "Regional Signature International Conference" category of the Global K-Convention Development Project, only five were selected nationwide, with Pohang being the sole representative from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region.
With this selection, Pohang City will receive a total project budget of 600 million KRW over four years and customized forum programs supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
Starting this year, the city plans to hold the forum annually as a regional signature international conference, and will establish a mid- to long-term roadmap to foster it as a leading domestic international conference. After the opening of the Pohang International Exhibition and Convention Center (POEX), the scale of the event will be further expanded.
With this selection, the World Green Growth Forum has been recognized as a regional international conference with global growth potential, centered on the region's key industries. At the inaugural forum, efforts for green transition in local industries and green growth action with global citizens will be promoted to the world.
The World Green Growth Forum is scheduled to be held over two days from May 14 to 15, with sponsorship from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub, and ICLEI Korea.
As a region-led international conference, the forum aims to address the era's pressing issues of climate crisis response and green growth, serving as a platform for governments, businesses, academia, and civil society from around the world to gather and discuss sustainable cities.
To attend, pre-registration is available on the official website starting April 1.
