In April, the theme will be "Homemade Syrup and Pickle Making," with one-day classes held every Thursday. On April 3, participants can make homemade syrup (pear, balloon flower root, jujube, and ginger syrup & gift wrapping with bojagi), on the 10th oil pickles (grilled vegetables and cherry tomato oil pickles with open sandwiches), on the 17th Greek yogurt, and on the 24th homemade pickles (mushrooms and assorted vegetables). Participants will be able to make and take home various fermented foods.
The cost for each fermented food experience is 12,000 won per session, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations can be made online through the "Frequently Used Menu - Integrated Online Reservation" section of the Gwangju Kimchi Town website. Last year, 20 participants were recruited for each session, but due to increased popularity, this year 24 participants will be accepted per session.
In June, four sessions will be held under the theme of "Royal Court Cuisine," and in September, four sessions will focus on "Rice Cakes." Detailed information can be found on the Gwangju Kimchi Town website.
Noh Hyungun, Director of the Kimchi Town Management Office, said, "We are preparing cost-effective programs where you can learn to make a variety of foods such as homemade syrup, royal court cuisine, and rice cakes at a low cost," and added, "We hope for the active interest and participation of citizens."
