Jangseong County to Add Tradition and Local Flavor to Jeonnam Sports Festival Torch Relay
Local Identity Showcased Through Unique Performances
Water Relay, Confucian Scholar Procession, and Sangmudae Soldiers to Participate

Dividing Jangseongho, passing by the UNESCO World Heritage Site Pilamseowon, and traversing Sangmudae?the torch relay for the 64th Jeonnam Sports Festival is being uniquely colored by Jangseong-gun. Ahead of the event, the county is adding a local touch with a distinctive torch relay.

View original imageAccording to the county on the 20th, in celebration of the 64th Jeonnam Sports Festival and the 33rd Jeonnam Para Sports Festival opening on April 18, a unique torch relay will be held across various locations in the region.
First, rowing athletes from Jangseong County Office will showcase a "water relay" by carrying the torch across Jangseongho on a racing boat. At Pilamseowon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Confucian scholars dressed in traditional attire will carry the torch through the grounds. At Sangmudae Army Base, a relay team composed of soldiers will march through the base, embodying the "Sangmu Spirit."
The torch will be lit at the Baegamsan National Flag Platform on the morning of April 17. Afterwards, a relay team consisting of runners and escorts will carry the torch through various towns and notable relay spots. The next day, a departure ceremony will be held at Hwangryong Garden, and the torch will be transported along the Hwangryonggang Flower Road to the Public Stadium (Yellow City Stadium). Notably, the final relay and lighting ceremony at the stadium will feature a performance reflecting the identity of the city brand "Growing Jangseong."
Kim Hanjong, the county governor, stated, "As the torch relay, which captures the unique characteristics of our region, marks the beginning of the festival, we will do our best to make it an event that enhances the pride of our residents."
Meanwhile, the county is thoroughly preparing for the event by conducting pre-inspections of the entire relay route in cooperation with the police, agencies, and towns.
