52% Decrease in Theater Attendance Due to February's Poor Performance of Korean Films
Only 'Captain America' Surpasses 10 Billion KRW in Box Office Revenue
Last month, the number of moviegoers and box office revenue significantly declined.
According to the February 2025 film industry report released by the Korean Film Council on the 19th, the number of visitors to theaters last month was 5.47 million, a 52.2% (5.98 million) decrease compared to the same period last year. Revenue also dropped by 52% (57.5 billion KRW) from the same month last year, recording 53.1 billion KRW.
For Korean films, the number of viewers decreased by 61.3% (4.27 million) compared to the same month last year, totaling 2.7 million, showing a relatively larger decline. Revenue fell by 60.3% (39.9 billion KRW) to 26.3 billion KRW.
In February, foreign films recorded box office revenue of 6.8 billion KRW, a decrease of more than 39% compared to the same period last year, with 2.78 million viewers. The only film to surpass 10 billion KRW in revenue last month was Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World. The film achieved the highest success with 14.6 billion KRW in revenue and 1.46 million viewers.

The Korean animation Toemarok recorded 1.9 billion KRW in revenue (200,000 viewers) last month, ranking first among independent and art films.
