Jeonnam Office of Education Seeks Ways to Improve School Meals
‘Nutrition Teachers Council’ Held
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education recently announced on the 19th that it held a ‘Nutrition Teachers Council’ at the Naju Gifted Education Center under the Naju Office of Education, aiming to seek improvements and development plans for the Jeonnam school meal system.
During this council, major issues were discussed, including ▲difficulties in meal service operations due to decreasing student numbers ▲ensuring the quality of meals for students at small schools ▲enhancing the overall management of school meal operations. Nutrition teachers agreed on the need for efficient operation plans that reflect the unique characteristics of Jeonnam’s school meal system and for multifaceted development strategies to improve the school meal system in the rapidly changing educational environment.

The need for improvements such as enhancing the high-quality ingredient supply system, simplifying the settlement statements for free meal ingredient costs, and preparing operation manuals for small schools affected by declining student numbers was actively raised.
The Provincial Office of Education stated that various discussions were held through this council to ensure the sustainability and qualitative improvement of Jeonnam’s school meal system, and that practical improvement measures are expected to be established in the future.
One nutrition teacher who participated in the council said, “Establishing stable school meal operation measures tailored to the characteristics of Jeonnam is no longer a choice but a trend of the times,” and added, “I hope that reducing administrative tasks such as simplifying settlement statements and preparing on-site customized operation manuals will serve as an opportunity for further advancement of school meals.”
Superintendent Kim Daejung stated, “To advance school meals, we will jointly operate a task force related to school meals with local governments and continue to improve the meal environment,” adding, “In particular, we will actively reflect the opinions of schools to provide students with a safe and balanced meal environment.”
