Korea Rail Network Authority Completes Seogangcheon Bridge Improvement Work on Taebaek Line
The Gangwon Headquarters of the Korea National Railway Corporation announced on the 19th that it has completed the improvement work on the Seogangcheon Bridge on the Taebaek Line, which had been underway since the second half of last year.
The Taebaek Line is a main railway line connecting Jecheon City in Chungbuk Province and Taebaek City in Gangwon Province. The improvement work was carried out to prevent damage caused by heavy summer rains. The Seogangcheon Bridge, where the improvement work took place, is an aging bridge completed in 1954 in Nam-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon Province. Its piers are located in the center of the river, posing a high risk of flooding and inundation during heavy rains.

When installing the new bridge superstructure, the work was completed using the Smart-Transporter method, which does not interfere with spatial constraints such as pier spacing and pier height.
The Smart-Transporter method is a technology that precisely transports and installs new bridge superstructures to the desired location using rails and specialized transportation equipment.
Lee Myung-seok, head of the Korea National Railway Corporation Gangwon Headquarters, said, “We will actively utilize smart technology on site to continuously enhance the safety and efficiency of railway facilities.”
