Yeosu City Resumes Receiving Yeosun Incident Victim Applications Until August 31
Report in Person at Town and Township Community Centers
Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Chung Kimyung) announced on the 18th that it will resume the third round of applications for reporting victims and bereaved families in accordance with the revision of the Special Act on the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident.
The city plans to accept additional reports of damages through the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident Support Team (located at Mangma Stadium) and 27 town and township community centers until August 31, and will focus administrative efforts on fact-finding investigations to determine the victims and their families.

View original imagePreviously, the city received a total of 2,048 reports of damages in two rounds by the end of 2023. From the beginning, the city worked to increase the reporting rate through on-site briefings at towns and townships, a one-stop reporting service, specialized staff training sessions, and various promotional initiatives.
Mayor Chung Kimyung stated, "In May, we will preserve the historical symbolism of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident through the promotional center and establish the justification for attracting a Peace Park," adding, "We will also make multifaceted efforts for the revision of the special act, which includes support for medical and living expenses for bereaved families, establishing grounds for compensation, and attracting the Peace Foundation."
