The city received official designation for the natural recreation forest from the Korea Forest Service in January, and after obtaining permission to use national forest land, began landscaping and civil engineering work for site development on the 14th.
The city will invest 79.77 billion KRW to develop Pureunae Natural Recreation Forest in phases, dividing it into Phase 1 (Mokdal District) and Phase 2 (Guwan District). Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in September 2026, and Phase 2 by 2028.
Pureunae Natural Recreation Forest will be created as a differentiated forest recreation space that all generations can enjoy together. It will offer customized forests tailored to different life stages, such as a prenatal forest, birth forest, children's forest, forest experience center, forest bathing area, companion forest, and forest management area, providing a relaxation experience in harmony with nature.
In particular, the site will be organized into six themed zones, including core facilities, nature experience, companion forest, conservation education, and autonomous healing and leisure sports zones, so that visitors can enjoy more systematic and diverse forest welfare services.
To allow visitors to relax and heal in nature, the site will include 50 accommodation units (18 in the recreation hall, 12 in multi-family buildings, and 20 forest cabins) and 20 camping sites, along with forest experience programs linked to various ecological resources.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "The Bomunsan area is a valuable asset of Daejeon, and the Pureunae Natural Recreation Forest is an important project that will make it an even more valuable space. Once completed in 2028, the Bomunsan area will become not just a simple recreation site, but a new landmark of Daejeon and a leading forest tourism destination representing Korea."
