On the 18th, the government held a Cabinet meeting at the Government Complex Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and reviewed and approved the amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on Employment Policy concerning the continuation of duties of appointed members of the Employment Policy Deliberation Committee.
Under the Framework Act on Employment Policy, the Employment Policy Deliberation Committee is composed of the chairperson (Minister of Employment and Labor), government members (vice ministers from nine ministries including the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Education), and appointed members (representatives of workers and employers, experts, etc.). Among these, government members serve in their duties during their tenure, while appointed members serve for a statutory term of 2 years.
When the term of an appointed member ends, a successor must be appointed; however, if the appointment of a successor is inevitably delayed, the appointed member’s ability to perform duties is restricted, which could disrupt the continuity of the Employment Policy Deliberation Committee’s work.

Accordingly, the government referred to legislative precedents from other government committees such as the Employment Insurance Committee, Employment Insurance Review Committee, and Minimum Wage Commission, and decided to allow appointed members to continue performing their duties until their successors are appointed, even after their terms have expired.
