Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province is launching the 'Tuberculosis Prevention Supporters for Seniors' program to prevent and detect tuberculosis early among the elderly.

View original imageAt the appointment ceremony held on the 17th in the main conference room of the Uiseong County Public Health Center, about 100 people attended, including representatives from North Gyeongsang Province, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean National Tuberculosis Association, the North Gyeongsang Infectious Disease Control Support Group, and the Uiseong-eup Village Leaders’ Council.
This project is being promoted as a pilot program in North Gyeongsang Province to protect the elderly, who are vulnerable to tuberculosis.
The appointed supporters will regularly visit 10 senior centers in Uiseong-eup to provide tuberculosis prevention education and health monitoring. They will also carry out promotional activities to raise awareness of tuberculosis among local residents.
The event included an introduction to the current state of tuberculosis and prevention projects, the awarding of appointment certificates to 10 supporters, the wearing of group uniforms, and commemorative photography. In addition, to mark the 15th Tuberculosis Prevention Day, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean National Tuberculosis Association held free tuberculosis screenings and a prevention campaign at Uiseong Traditional Market.
The event featured various programs such as O·X quizzes, distribution of informational booklets, and street promotions, attracting high interest from local residents.
Kim Jusu, the mayor of Uiseong County, stated, "Tuberculosis is a disease where early detection and prevention are crucial," adding, "Through the operation of the supporters, we will systematically manage the health of seniors and raise community awareness about tuberculosis prevention."
