Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Kim Deok-hyun) announced on the 14th that on the 11th, seven council members including Kim Mi-kyung, Chairperson of the County Council, participated in a "Kaesong Food Making Experience Education" held at the Kaesong Food Culture Research Institute affiliated with the Korean Traditional Food Research Institute.

View original imageThis education program was planned as part of the "Kaesong Food Culture and Ritual Food Culture Discovery and Transmission Foundation Establishment Project," which Yeoncheon-gun has been promoting since 2023 as a future intangible heritage discovery and fostering project.
On that day, the council members experienced making Joraengi Tteokguk and Bugeo Jeonya (dried pollack pancake), representative local dishes of Kaesong. Joraengi Tteokguk is one of Kaesong's representative New Year's dishes, made by boiling white rice cakes shaped like silkworm cocoons in beef broth.
One of the attending council members said, "By directly experiencing Kaesong food, it was a valuable time to gain a deeper understanding that Kaesong cuisine has the value to be widely promoted and spread as another cultural tourism resource representing Yeoncheon-gun."

Meanwhile, the Kaesong Food Culture Research Institute was opened in June 2022 in Jangnam-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, which is close to Kaesong, with the goal of restoring the original form of Kaesong food. This year, together with Yeoncheon-gun, free consulting for dining establishments within Yeoncheon-gun and various experiences and exhibitions under the theme "Kaesong Food Blossoming Again in Yeoncheon" are planned to popularize Kaesong cuisine.
