Although Geumho-dong and Taein-dong are geographically very close, due to road conditions, residents have experienced inconvenience as they had to take a long detour by car to travel between the two areas.
To resolve this inconvenience, Gwangyang Steelworks submitted the design proposal for the Geumho-Taein Pedestrian Bridge installation project to Gwangyang City in August last year, after passing through the POSCO board of directors in 2023.
This project is especially meaningful as it is a joint effort between Gwangyang City and POSCO to create a better local community. The total budget is expected to be approximately 3.03 billion KRW, of which POSCO will cover 2.25 billion KRW.
With the commencement of this project, construction of the Geumho-Taein Pedestrian Bridge is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. Once completed, the long-awaited bridge is expected to greatly benefit students commuting from Taein-dong.
Jung Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, stated, "With the addition of the Geumho-Taein Pedestrian Bridge following the existing vehicle-centered Taein Bridge, we expect a dramatic improvement in the pedestrian environment for residents. Gwangyang City will provide full administrative support to ensure the construction proceeds smoothly and safely."
Ko Jaeyoon, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "The Geumho-Taein Pedestrian Bridge will not only promote more active exchange between Geumho-dong and Taein-dong, but also significantly improve the quality of life for local residents and increase the number of travelers thanks to improved transportation infrastructure. We ask that safety at the site be prioritized during construction, and Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to pursue various activities for the development of the local community."
