'Sexual Crime Victim of Ahn Hee-jung' Kim Ji-eun Wins Partial Compensation Lawsuit in Second Trial
High Court Orders Ahn Hee-jung to Pay Kim Ji-eun 83.04 Million Won
Kim Ji-eun, the sexual assault victim of former Chungnam Governor Ahn Hee-jung, won a partial victory in the second trial of the damages lawsuit she filed against the former governor and Chungnam Province.
On the 12th, the Civil Division 3-3 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judges Bae Yong-jun, Kyeon Jong-cheol, Choi Hyun-jong) ruled in the appeal trial of the damages lawsuit filed by Kim against former Governor Ahn and Chungnam Province, ordering "former Governor Ahn to pay Kim 83.04 million won." This amount is slightly less than the 83.47 million won awarded in the first trial. The appeal filed by the plaintiff against Chungnam Province was dismissed.
Earlier, in July 2020, Kim filed a lawsuit claiming 300 million won in total for consolation money and medical expenses, stating that she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to sexual assault and secondary harm caused by former Governor Ahn. She also filed a damages lawsuit against Chungnam Province, holding it responsible for the crime committed during the performance of official duties. Former Governor Ahn was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison by the Supreme Court in 2019 for charges including sexual assault and sexual harassment by abuse of power against his secretary Kim from July 2017 to February 2018, and after serving his sentence, he was released in August 2022 upon completion of his term.

Kim’s legal representative stated immediately after the verdict, "The defendant side still responded in the civil lawsuit by claiming that the Supreme Court ruling in the criminal case was wrong, which prolonged the trial and delayed the evidence submission process, making it difficult for the parties involved. Since the procedures must be properly followed, we courageously proceeded with the appeal trial, and after receiving the judgment, we will gradually decide whether to file a further appeal."
