Geochang County Presents Customized Population Growth Policies at a Glance
Publication of the 2025 Population Policy Guidebook:
"Hopeful Geochang Where People Gather"
Geochang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that it has produced the 2025 "Hopeful Geochang Where People Gather" population policy guidebook in response to the ongoing population decline and to effectively inform residents of various population policies.
This guidebook organizes the various population growth initiatives implemented by Geochang County, providing effective information not only to local residents but also to those wishing to move to Geochang.
The guidebook includes a total of 75 projects across seven customized policy areas by life stage: ▲Marriage, Pregnancy, and Childbirth (18 projects) ▲Child Rearing and Multi-Child Families (10 projects) ▲Adolescents and University Students (14 projects) ▲Youth (15 projects) ▲Relocation (8 projects) ▲Returning to Farming and Rural Life (7 projects) ▲Daily Life (3 projects).
Notably, major policies include the "Childbirth Congratulatory Grant," which provides a lump sum of 5 million KRW per newborn regardless of birth order; the "Relocation Settlement Grant," which offers 500,000 KRW per person to those moving into the county; and the "Marriage Congratulatory Grant," which gives newlywed couples under the age of 45 who reside in the county 2 million KRW annually for three years in installments.
Additionally, the guidebook introduces projects such as the "Returning Farmer Stable Settlement Support Project," which assists with education and obtaining agricultural certificates for returning farmers, and the "Support Project for Local High School and University Students," which helps relieve the financial burden for students who have moved into the county. The guidebook is structured so that people of all ages can easily find and apply for support programs that suit their needs.
Geochang County plans to actively promote the guidebook by distributing it to township administrative welfare centers, offices, libraries, and local businesses, as well as making it available for download on the county website so that many residents can take advantage of the policies that best fit them.
County Governor Koo Inmo stated, "Despite the nationwide trend of low birth rates and an aging population, Geochang County achieved significant results last year in key population indicators through proactive population policies, ranking first in population among counties in Gyeongnam, with a total fertility rate of 1.20 and the lowest population decline rate. We will continue to widely promote Geochang County's various population growth initiatives and do our utmost to ensure that many people can benefit from them."
