Ahn Cheol-soo Accepts Lee Jae-myung's AI Debate Proposal: "Will Coordinate Time and Place"
Debate Over 'K-NVIDIA Sovereign Wealth Fund Investment' Continues
Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the People Power Party's Special Committee for Advancing Korea as a Top 3 AI Power, has agreed to Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea's AI debate proposal.
On the 5th, Ahn wrote on social media (SNS), "I accept Leader Lee's debate proposal," adding, "I will adjust the time and place according to Leader Lee Jae-myung."
On the same day in the morning, Lee proposed a public debate to the People Power Party regarding the recent controversy over the 'K-NVIDIA sovereign wealth fund investment.' Since Lee did not specify a debate opponent from the People Power Party, it appears that Ahn, who oversees AI-related policies for the People Power Party as chairman of the Special Committee for Advancing Korea as a Top 3 AI Power, responded to the request.
On the 2nd, Lee appeared on the YouTube channel of the party-affiliated Democratic Research Institute and hypothetically assumed that a company like NVIDIA existed in Korea, saying, "(If) 70% of its shares belong to private (companies) and 30% are shared by all citizens, wouldn't a society come where we do not necessarily have to rely on taxes?"
In response, the People Power Party continued to criticize this as an anti-business remark. Ahn harshly criticized, saying, "It is a statement that shows no understanding of the startup company's founding process," and asked, "Does Leader Lee Jae-myung think NVIDIA is a machine that produces fish-shaped bread (Bungeoppang)?" He added that it is "a product of ignorance, not knowing the AI ecosystem in Korea or the emergence and growth stories of Taiwan's TSMC and America's NVIDIA." Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon raised his voice, saying, "This is like the nationalization by dictatorships in South America. We must go in the exact opposite direction."

In response, Lee said at the Supreme Council meeting, "(The ruling party) talks about socialism and communism, but with this level of knowledge and economic understanding, they cannot overcome the waves of the challenging advanced industry era," adding, "Instead of constantly speaking ill behind the scenes, it would be good to gather in one place and have a debate." Addressing the party leadership, he said, "Various people in the People Power Party have expressed opinions. I hope we can have an opportunity to openly discuss issues such as AI technology investment and the state's role, the future of the AI industry, and military modernization. Any format is fine; let's have a debate once. The People Power Party should also maintain its dignity."
