Korea-Spain Joint R&D for Advanced Industries Worth 27 Billion KRW 추진
On the 5th (local time), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 2nd Korea-Spain Industrial Technology Cooperation Joint Committee in Madrid, Spain, together with the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, discussing ways to expand technological cooperation.
Since 2015, the two countries have continued their collaboration through the Eureka Network, the world's largest joint research platform. Since last year, they have expanded the scale of cooperation by supporting joint R&D worth a total of 25.6 billion KRW (combined Korea-Spain) in the fields of mobility and renewable energy.
At this joint committee, it was agreed to strengthen cooperation in core technology areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and advanced materials. Accordingly, this year AI and semiconductors will be designated as key cooperation fields, and in 2026 advanced materials and nanomaterials will be focused on, with plans to promote joint R&D totaling 27 billion KRW (combined Korea-Spain).
Oh Seung-cheol, Director of the Industrial Infrastructure Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, stated, "Through this meeting, we have expanded the scope of bilateral cooperation to advanced new technology fields and created an opportunity to further strengthen the foundation for technological cooperation. We will actively support our companies to secure advanced technologies and pioneer new markets amid fierce global technological competition."

The two countries plan to utilize the upcoming ‘Korea Eureka Day’ held in Germany this April to expand technology exchanges among industry, academia, and research institutes, and to continue supporting promising technology cooperation projects.
