Five Major Automakers' February Sales Increase by 4.1% Year-on-Year
Five Companies Sell 630,399 Units
Domestic Sales Up 13.2%
Overseas Sales Increase by 2.3%
Last month, the sales performance of five domestic automakers increased by 4.1% compared to the same month last year. It is analyzed that the strong performance of Hyundai Motor Group, which accounts for about 90% of total sales, drove the upward trend.
According to the sales performance announcements from Hyundai Motor, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility (KGM) on the 4th, the domestic and overseas sales volume of the five companies last month totaled 630,399 units, a 4.1% increase compared to the same month last year.
The sales performance of the five companies, which had turned to a decline for the first time in four months since January, successfully rebounded in just one month.
Domestic sales increased by 13.1% year-on-year to 112,302 units, while overseas sales rose by 2.4% to 518,097 units.
The increase in Hyundai Motor Group's sales performance is analyzed to have led the positive turnaround. Hyundai Motor's domestic sales volume recorded 57,216 units, a 20.1% increase compared to the same month last year. Overseas sales decreased by 1.1% to 265,123 units. The combined domestic and overseas sales volume increased by 2.1% year-on-year to 322,339 units.
Kia sold a total of 253,850 units last month, including 46,047 units domestically, 207,803 units overseas, and 385 special vehicles. Both domestic and overseas sales volumes increased by 4.5% compared to the same month last year.
Among the mid-sized three companies, GM Korea achieved strong results thanks to exports. GM Korea sold 39,655 units, a 29.5% increase compared to the same month last year. Overseas sales increased by 33.3% to 38,173 units, while domestic sales decreased by 25.4% to only 1,482 units.
KG Mobility sold 8,456 units, a 10.5% decrease. Overseas sales increased by 1.3% to 5,780 units, while domestic sales dropped by 28.6% to 2,676 units.

Renault Korea sold 6,099 units last month, an 11.3% decrease compared to the same month last year. Domestic sales increased by 170.1% to 4,881 units, while overseas sales decreased by 76.0% to 1,218 units.
