Hongseong Sky Tower Closed for One Month from the 10th for Safety Inspection During Thawing Season
Nearby Attractions Such as Moseom Trail and Sokdong Sunset Road Remain Open to Visitors
Hongseong County in Chungnam announced on the 4th that it will close the Hongseong Sky Tower for one month, from the 10th of this month to April 11th, to ensure safe operation during the spring thaw season, when many tourists visit.
Since its opening in June last year, the Hongseong Sky Tower has attracted 170,000 visitors by the end of February. Of these, 82% are visitors from outside the region, making a significant contribution to attracting tourists since its opening. Admission revenue has reached 102 million KRW, providing a substantial boost to the local economy.
During the closure, the county will conduct a safety inspection of the skywalk and complete surrounding maintenance and cleaning projects, including the sea-view rest area and landscape development projects that have been underway since last year.
While entry to the Hongseong Sky Tower will not be possible during the closure, visitors can still enjoy the nighttime lighting, Moseom Trail, Sokdong Sunset Road, Sokdong Coastal Park, and other nearby tourist attractions.
In August last year, following the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s recommendation to improve the system for public pedestrian facilities, and considering the geographical characteristics of the Hongseong Sky Tower located on the coast, its height of 65 meters, and the structural uniqueness of the glass-floored skywalk, Hongseong County designated and announced the tower as a Type 3 facility under relevant laws in September last year.
When designated as a Type 3 facility, a regular safety inspection must be conducted once every six months, and a detailed safety diagnosis must be performed if necessary, based on the results.
The county asked for visitors' understanding and cooperation regarding the thorough safety inspection, so that tourists visiting the landmark Hongseong Sky Tower can safely enjoy the famous sunset and the thrill of the skywalk.
A county official said, "All ongoing projects, including the Sokdong Coastal Park theme garden and the sea-view rest area and landscape development, will be completed in the first half of this year. With the introduction of new content, the Hongseong Sky Tower will be reborn as a more beautiful and complete tourist attraction."
