Ruling Party Lawmakers to Attend Christian Group Rally
Opposition to Hold 'Rally Urging Yoon's Dismissal' in Jongno, Seoul
Ruling and opposition parties are expected to attend large-scale rallies for and against impeachment held in Seoul on March 1st. Members of the People Power Party will gather at an anti-impeachment rally led by conservative Christian groups, while opposition party members, including those from the Democratic Party, will unite at a rally calling for the dismissal of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
According to political circles on the 28th, lawmakers from both sides will simultaneously gather at the impeachment rallies on March 1st. This marks the first weekend and public holiday after the conclusion of the impeachment trial arguments against President Yoon. The Constitutional Court ended the trial arguments on the 25th after President Yoon’s final statement. Now, only the court’s ruling remains.

About 30 members, including Kim Ki-hyun and Na Kyung-won, will participate in the Yeouido rally hosted by the conservative Christian group Save Korea. Some of them are reportedly considering giving speeches on stage. At the Gwanghwamun rally led by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church, some lawmakers including Yoon Sang-hyun are expected to be present. The People Power Party leadership emphasized that attendance is not a party-level decision but that individual lawmakers are acting autonomously.

On March 1st, five opposition parties?the Democratic Party, the Innovation Party for Justice, the Progressive Party, the Basic Income Party, and the Social Democratic Party?will jointly hold the “National Rally to End Insurrection and Protect Democratic Governance” in Anguk-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The rally will be attended by Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung and acting leader Kim Seon-min of the Innovation Party for Justice. On the day, Lee encouraged participation through social media. On Facebook, he wrote, “Let us continue the unextinguished multicolored light until the day the insurrection ends,” and “Fill the Anguk Station intersection with the passionate shouts of the sovereign people tomorrow.”
