Yeosu Songdo and Songgo Ports Selected for Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Fishing Village Vitalization Project
A Total Investment of 13.85 Billion Won Planned by 2028
With Songdo Port in Dolsan-eup and Songgo Port in Nam-myeon, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, being finally selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' "2025 Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project," these areas will be reborn as vibrant spaces.
According to Yeosu City on the 27th, the "Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project" is a key government initiative aimed at reviving fishing villages facing extinction by supporting the creation of economic and living platforms and improving safety infrastructure according to the scale and characteristics of each village.
Out of 98 candidate sites submitted by 41 local governments nationwide, Yeosu City was the only one to have two locations selected, proving the competitiveness and development potential of its fishing villages.
With the selection, the city has secured approximately 9.7 billion won in national funding and plans to invest a total of 13.85 billion won over four years in the Dolsan Songdo Port and Nam-myeon Songgo Port districts.
Specifically, 10 billion won will be invested in Songdo Port to establish a delivery system for fishing village life services and create new jobs, while 3.85 billion won will be invested in Songgo Port to restore its function through port improvements.
Previously, since June last year, the city conducted basic surveys and consultations with fishing village associations in 11 candidate districts and thoroughly prepared its project plan for the competition.
A city official stated, "Since we are the only city nationwide to have two sites selected, we will carry out the project with a strong sense of responsibility to create sustainable fishing villages," adding, "We will continue to discover various projects and expand support to make our fishing villages more vibrant and livable."
