Boryeong City University Student Short-term Internship Program Shows Success in Youth Local Settlement
188 University Students Participate in 124 Companies Over Five Years
Boryeong City in South Chungcheong Province is seeing significant results from its "University Student Short-term Internship Support Program," which is being operated to encourage local youth to settle in the region and promote the excellence of local companies.
According to the city on the 25th, this program has been connecting local companies with university student interns during the summer and winter vacations every year since 2020. Over the past five years, 124 companies and 188 university students have participated.
In particular, this winter's recruitment recorded a high competition rate of 4.8 to 1, establishing itself as Boryeong's leading youth job program.
Recently, there have even been cases where students, based on their short-term internship experience, were rehired by the same company.
Lee Hyowon, a student currently attending a university in Daejeon, participated as a short-term intern in the summer of 2024. After being recognized for a diligent work attitude and outstanding design skills, Lee will work at the same company again in the winter of 2025.
Boryeong City is operating this program with the goal of providing practical employment opportunities, not just simple part-time jobs.
Mayor Kim Dongil said, "Although many local governments have run university student internship programs, Boryeong is the only one currently operating such a program continuously for local companies. The key to success is encouraging young people to settle in the region and connecting them with companies."
He added, "We will continue to actively support more young people in gaining hands-on experience at local companies."
