Gwangju Urban Corporation Registered as Renewable Energy Electricity Supplier
"Expectations for a Virtuous Cycle Model of RE100 and Renewable Energy"
Gwangju Urban Corporation announced on the 24th that it received final approval as a renewable energy electricity supplier from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 21st, enabling it to directly pursue a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) project, which is one of the implementation methods for RE100.
A 'renewable energy electricity supplier' refers to a business entity that can directly sell electricity produced at renewable energy power plants to electricity users (companies).
The corporation will take on the roles of both power generator and supplier through its currently operating power plants (including the World Cup Stadium with a capacity of 499kW and five other sites totaling 1,370kW) and by recruiting additional power sources. It will carry out 'direct PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)' by directly selling electricity generated from renewable energy power plants to electricity users.
President Kim Seungnam stated, "We will achieve sustainable development that considers both the local economy and the environment," and added, "We will actively support the stable implementation of RE100 for local resident companies."
In a situation where power generation permits are restricted due to grid saturation in the Gwangju area, the corporation's acquisition of renewable energy electricity supplier status is expected to contribute to the continuous promotion of new and renewable energy and to the improvement of Gwangju City's energy self-sufficiency rate.
