Gwangju Literature Center: "I Also Want to Be 'Han Kang'... Healing Weary Hearts Through Writing"
Literary Programs Offered
for Adults and Children
Gwangju Literature Center in Gwangju City announced on the 21st that it will operate its regular programs for the first half of this year from March to May.
The first-half programs are composed of a total of six courses for adults and children, aiming to enhance citizens' writing skills following author Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature win and to inspire those who dream of becoming the "second Han Kang."
The adult courses include: ▲Time to Find Myself ▲My Own Craft with Literature ▲Sing the Poem. The "Time to Find Myself" course offers a healing experience by writing original poems to soothe weary hearts. "My Own Craft with Literature" involves sharing impressions after reading picture books and expressing them through craftwork. "Sing the Poem" teaches vocalization and breathing techniques for poetry recitation, allowing participants to express their appreciation of poetry directly.
The children's courses include: ▲Children's Literature School ▲Making My Own Special Book ▲Jomuljomul Picture Book, all designed to help children learn creative writing.
At "Children's Literature School," students from grades 2 to 6 will develop expressive skills through creative writing by composing poems, fairy tales, and essays. "Making My Own Special Book" is open to all elementary grades, where children create their own picture books filled with personal emotions and thoughts. "Jomuljomul Picture Book" is for grades 1 to 3, where children read various books and enjoy crafts and activities to deepen their appreciation.
All courses are held 10 times each, are free of charge, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gwangju Literature Center also operates year-round programs such as "Making a Literary Sensibility Photo Book" as a regular offering. Through hands-on educational experiences using teaching materials, citizens are given opportunities to engage with literature more easily and participate in literary activities.
To register, applicants can use the Gwangju City website's direct reservation system or contact Gwangju Literature Center. Detailed information is available on the Gwangju Literature Center website.
Kim Seongbae, Director of Culture and Sports, said, "Through the diverse literary programs at Gwangju Literature Center, citizens will become closer to literature and experience the joy of creation," adding, "We hope for much interest and participation from citizens."
