The First Joint Research Planning Promotion Committee Held on the 20th
Both Institutions to Cooperate on New Industrial Technologies for a Low-Carbon Economy
Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST, President Jongrae Park) and Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT, President Youngguk Lee) have joined hands to develop national strategic technologies and strengthen regional industrial competitiveness.
On the 20th, the two institutions formed the ‘KRICT-UNIST Joint Research Planning Promotion Committee’ and held their first meeting at the Ulsan Biochemical Research Center of KRICT.

View original imageThe meeting was attended by over 30 researchers from each institution, including Tae-hyuk Kwon, Professor of Chemistry at UNIST, and Bong-guk Seo, Head of the Precision Biochemical Research Division at KRICT.
They discussed plans for collaborative projects and held a technology exchange session with faculty members from UNIST’s Department of Energy Chemical Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Graduate School of Carbon Neutrality.
Both institutions discussed cooperation strategies to develop national strategic technologies and enhance regional industrial competitiveness. They plan to strengthen communication among researchers through regular research exchange meetings and identify follow-up projects.
In particular, aiming to secure global technological competitiveness, they intend to expand cooperation in various fields such as low-carbon resource circulation economy and high value-added petrochemical industry.
Jongrae Park, President of UNIST, stated, “Based on the research outcomes created through the partnership between the two institutions, we will promote practical application and industrialization, contributing to balanced national development and revitalization of the regional economy.”

UNIST plans to strengthen cooperation with government-funded research institutes including KRICT, and to promote new projects necessary for the growth of Korean industry in collaboration with government ministries and local governments.
