Busan Veterans Office Pays Tribute at Independence Patriots' Graves on 80th Liberation Anniversary and Samiljeol
The Busan Regional Veterans Office (Director Lee Nam-il) announced on the 20th that it plans to pay respects at the grave of Choi Cheon-taek, a representative independence activist from the Busan area, at 10 a.m. on the 26th.
This memorial service, held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day and the March 1st Movement, will be a meaningful occasion to honor the sacrifices and dedication of independence activists and to carry on their spirit.
Participants in the memorial service include Kim Jin-hong, Mayor of Dong-gu, Busan; Baek Ki-hwan, Head of the Busan Branch of the Liberation Association; Seon Ho-seung, a teacher and member of the Veterans Honors Club; and students from various generations.
Choi Cheon-taek, a native of Dong-gu, Busan, was arrested by the Japanese police after throwing a bomb at the Busan Police Station office around September 1920 along with activist Park Jae-hyuk. He endured severe torture and was detained multiple times while serving as vice president and president of the Busan branch of the Singanhoe (New Trunk Association).
Lee Nam-il, Director of the Busan Regional Veterans Office, stated, "On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day and the March 1st Movement, we plan to promote remembrance of our patriotic ancestors and the inheritance of the independence spirit through a memorial visit to the graves of independence activists that everyone can participate in." He added, "We hope that this memorial event will allow any interested citizens to join, fostering a culture of veterans’ respect in everyday life."
