Ministry of SMEs and Startups Calls for Companies to Participate in 'CBAM Response Infrastructure Construction'
From February 21 to March 21
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 20th that it is recruiting companies to participate in the '2025 Small Business CBAM Response Infrastructure Construction' support project.
CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is a system that underwent a pilot implementation from October 2023 to December this year and will be fully implemented starting in 2026. Currently, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) exporting to the EU are required to measure the carbon emissions produced when manufacturing six carbon-intensive products such as steel and aluminum and report these emissions to the EU importers. From 2026, additional obligations will include third-party verification of the emission measurements and the purchase and submission of certificates corresponding to the emissions.
In response, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups established the 'Small Business CBAM Response Infrastructure Construction' project last year to reduce the burden on SMEs. This year, ahead of full implementation, the number of supported companies has been significantly expanded from 110 to 185.
SMEs that directly or indirectly export the six CBAM-targeted products to the EU can receive on-site customized consulting from experts through this project, including measuring carbon emissions per unit of production and reporting emissions to EU importers. Additionally, an EU-recognized verification agency reviews the carbon emission calculation results for each product and issues a final verification opinion, ensuring the accuracy of the emission measurements.
