Human Rights Commission Dismisses Emergency Relief for Martial Law Generals Moon Sang-ho and Yeo In-hyeong
The urgent relief petition claiming that generals involved in the December 3 emergency martial law incident, including former Commander of the Republic of Korea Army Intelligence Command Moon Sang-ho and former Commander of the Counterintelligence Command Yeo In-hyung, had their rights such as visitation by civilians violated was dismissed by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.

View original imageOn the morning of the 18th, the Human Rights Commission held a Military Human Rights Protection Committee (Military Human Rights Subcommittee) meeting at the Human Rights Commission in Jung-gu, Seoul, to review the urgent relief petition concerning four individuals: former Commander Moon, former Commander Yeo, former Special Warfare Command Commander Kwak Jong-geun, former Counterintelligence Command Commander Yeo In-hyung, and former Army Capital Defense Command Commander Lee Jin-woo.
The review took place from 10:30 a.m. for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, attended by Standing Commissioner Kim Yong-won and non-standing commissioners Lee Han-byeol and Han Seok-hoon. Non-standing Commissioner Kang Jeong-hye was absent.
The urgent relief petition was reportedly dismissed on the grounds that it was related to judicial matters and thus did not fall under the scope of investigation.

Previously, the lawyer of former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun filed a complaint and applied for urgent relief, arguing that the military court's prohibition on civilian visitation and correspondence for former Commanders Moon, Yeo, Lee, and Kwak infringed upon their fundamental rights.
