The 'Chorokwoosan Child Rights Advocacy Group' is a child participation organization established by Chorokwoosan in 2023. For one year, children will act as rights holders, learning about their own and others' rights, and working to improve laws and policies necessary to promote children's rights.
This year, a total of 198 members were selected nationwide for the Chorokwoosan Child Rights Advocacy Group through public recruitment in eight regions, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Siheung, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, and Jeju. The Gwangju Regional Headquarters recruited children aged 8 to 18 and formed the largest group in the country with 27 members.
After the inauguration ceremony, the Chorokwoosan Child Rights Advocacy Group will carry out activities to establish a legal basis for strengthening media literacy capabilities, aiming to protect children from various forms of digital violence and to foster their growth as responsible digital citizens. They will also examine cases of children's rights violations in the Gwangju region and participate in policy and environmental improvement activities such as writing opinion pieces and attending meetings with city council members.
Byun Jeonggeun, Director of Chorokwoosan Gwangju Regional Headquarters, said, "By representing children in the Gwangju region and having them directly voice their concerns on related issues, children will be able to create a safer and happier world. I hope that the members of the Child Rights Advocacy Group will gain meaningful experiences through their active participation."
