Samsung Heavy Industries Applies 'Saber Wind Cap' to New Ships to Reduce Air Resistance and Improve Fuel Efficiency
Up to 6% Improvement in Fuel Efficiency
Enhanced Protection for Cargo
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 18th that it has delivered a 15,000 TEU-class large container ship equipped with its self-developed air resistance reduction device, the 'SAVER Windcap (SAVER Wind(C))'. Although the SAVER Windcap was previously installed on existing container ships in 2022, this is the first time it has been applied to a newbuild vessel.

The SAVER Windcap installed at the bow is a large structure that reduces air resistance acting on the containers and safely protects the cargo from high waves.
The SAVER Windcap features an arch-shaped design tailored to various cargo loading and navigation conditions, which effectively disperses airflow around the front and sides of the ship, improving fuel efficiency by up to 6%.
Additionally, since no pillars are required to support the structure, there is no interference with the ship's outfitting during installation, and it is lighter compared to other products, attracting significant interest from global shipping companies. Samsung Heavy Industries has signed contracts to install the SAVER Windcap on 41 container ships to date.
