Presidential Office on Yoon Couple Deepfake Video: "Clear Defamation... Strong Legal Action"
The Presidential Office expressed strong regret on the 16th over the playback of a deepfake video synthesizing the faces of the President and the First Lady at a rally supporting the impeachment of the President held at the Gwangju 5·18 Democracy Square.
In a press release on the same day, the Presidential Office stated, "We cannot contain our anger at the serious personal insult and human rights violation beyond mere mockery directed at the sitting President and the First Lady, as well as the criminal acts using deepfake technology."
It continued, "President Yoon clearly maintains his status as the sitting President, and this is a blatant insult to the Head of State," adding, "We strongly regret all those who produced the deepfake video, those who played it at the rally, and those who stood by and watched at the scene."
