Seongdong-gu Conducts Special Safety Inspection on School Routes for New Semester
Special Inspection of School Routes and Child Protection Zones at All 21 Elementary Schools for 10 Days Starting February 17
Focusing on Four Key Areas: Management of Pedestrian Safety Facilities, Road and Sidewalk Damage, Safety Pavement Markings, Traffic Facility Damage, and Illegal Advertisements
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will conduct a special inspection for 10 days starting February 17 to prevent safety accidents on school routes within the district.
This special inspection aims to create a safer commuting environment for students ahead of the new semester. The district will inspect the school routes and child protection zones of all 21 elementary schools in the area.
The inspection will focus on four main areas: ▲management of pedestrian safety facilities ▲management of road and sidewalk damage and safety pavement markings ▲inspection of damaged traffic facilities ▲inspection of illegal advertisements. The goal is to completely eliminate safety hazards and prevent various accidents in advance. Additionally, a joint inspection with Seongdong Police Station will be conducted on traffic facilities within child protection zones, including yellow carpets and other traffic-related installations.
Any safety hazards identified during this special inspection will be immediately reported to the relevant departments via the Smart Inconvenience Reporting app for prompt action, and thorough follow-up management will be conducted until all measures are completed.
Furthermore, to create safe school routes, the district operates the nation’s largest “Walking School Bus” on 43 routes within the district. The “Walking School Bus” means a “walking school bus,” where traffic safety guardians accompany elementary school students in grades 1 to 3 on their way to and from school to ensure their safety. Recently, as social interest in creating safe commuting routes from various crimes has increased, this program has received greater attention.
Also, a metaverse safety school route living lab is operated with direct participation from a lifestyle research group centered on elementary school students to identify and improve hazards on school routes.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We are conducting special inspections to thoroughly prepare for the upcoming new semester to create safer commuting routes for students and parents. We will continue close cooperation with related organizations to create an urban environment where children can stay safely anywhere.”
