Melania, 40 Billion Won on Documentary Film... Amazon's Highest Ever Spending
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 14th (local time) that the family of U.S. President Donald Trump has been making huge amounts of money since Trump's election victory last year through lawsuit settlements, film rights fees, and more.
WSJ stated that, without specifying the starting point for calculation, the amount provided by companies to members of the Trump family and the Trump Library (currently being promoted) reached approximately $80 million (about 116.3 billion KRW).
For example, Amazon's streaming platform 'Prime Video' agreed to pay $40 million (about 5.81 billion KRW) in licensing fees to produce a documentary film about First Lady Melania's life, with more than 70% (about 4.07 billion KRW) of that amount going to Melania, the newspaper reported.
This was the highest amount Amazon has ever spent on a documentary film. Besides Amazon, Disney, which was also interested in the project, offered $14 million, and Paramount only proposed $4 million.
Melania's documentary contract appeared to be closely related to Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder, actively working to improve relations with President Trump, such as blocking a pro-Democratic candidate Kamala Harris editorial in the Washington Post (WP), which he owns, last year.
