Government Designates 1GW Offshore Wind Power Cluster in Southwestern Jeonbuk Region
1.4GW Offshore Wind Power Complex to Be Established in the Waters of Buan-gun and Gochang-gun
On the 12th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that, following the deliberation and resolution of the New and Renewable Energy Policy Council, the "Jeonbuk Southwestern Region 1GW Offshore Wind Power Project (Expansion Complex 1)" has been designated and announced as a new and renewable energy cluster complex.
With this designation, Jeonbuk Province plans to establish a total of 1.4GW offshore wind power complexes in the waters of Buan-gun and Gochang-gun.
The new and renewable energy cluster complex is an area where local governments (implementing agencies) lead site discovery and promote renewable energy power generation projects by securing resident acceptance through a public-private council involving local residents, fishermen, and local governments. The government can request KEPCO to establish joint connection facilities, and after the completion of the power generation complex, a maximum REC weighting of 0.1 can be granted to the local government.

Jeonbuk Province secured resident acceptance by installing wind measurement devices through government-supported projects to identify suitable sites, and by including representatives of residents and fishermen from Buan and Gochang counties, as well as representatives of residents from Jeongeup-si, which is along the transmission line route, in the public-private council. The project implementer will also be selected in the future.
