Yeoju-si, First Distribution of Virus-Free Sweet Potato Seedlings Conducted
A Total of 42,000 Seedlings Including Hopungmi, Sodammi, and Jinyulmi Supplied
Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) will conduct the first distribution of virus-free sweet potato seedlings to local farmers on the 7th. In this initial distribution, a total of 42,000 virus-free seedlings, including Hopungmi, Sodammi, and Jinyulmi varieties, will be supplied.
The Yeoju Agricultural Technology Center has been operating a sweet potato virus-free seedling center since 2016, producing healthy sweet potato seedlings free of viral diseases through tissue culture. The center cultivates virus-free seedlings with thorough hygiene management using clean benches and sterilization equipment, distributing them to local farmers to support the production of high-quality sweet potatoes and enhance the reputation of Yeoju sweet potatoes. They aim to produce and distribute 200,000 seedlings annually.
Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju stated, “As Yeoju provides substantial support to increase sweet potato yields and improve quality, we expect active utilization by local farmers.” Jeon Chang-hyun, Director of Technology Extension, said, “We will continue to produce and distribute virus-free seedlings to contribute to the income improvement of Yeoju sweet potato farmers.”
